Autumn is moving in Kyoto … A cooler day today encourages us to get coats and we go to the west of the city, with firstly the visit of one of the oldest temples of Kyoto, Daikaku-ji, a former resort of the Emperor Saga, the ultimate Shinden style residence, with its small stream that runs through the whole area.
Then, we go for lunch in a little jewel in the forest along the Hozu river, the very tasty kaiseki cuisine. I love the assortment of food and fall colors in harmony with the season …
We continue with a large temple garden and its pond, Tenryu-ji…
…and ending with the sumptuous and “small path that climbs and snakes through the mountain” Okochi Sanso. The walk, preceded by a matcha tea, sharpens the senses. Climbing the hill, the focus is on the path that narrows and becomes a carpet of roots between no irregular stones. At the top, we find the meandering of Hozu river, with its mountains and deep valleys that crisscross throughout its course. Wonderful !
