Women in garden…

I am often gone to Japan and given my passion, I have often stridden along nurseries and gardens of all kinds, in every way … I have obviously met many ladies, armed with brooms and other utensils used to rake leaves or pull weeds, but in the huge number of gardeners, landscapers, architects and other designers of the plant that I have met, to my great regret, I have rarely met a woman.

In France, our number is already limited. I have already been a part of juries for examinations of final year in landscape creations option and girls are not legion, as for the professionals, just take a look at the yellow pages directory (more precisely, the female represents 7% of business landscape – UNEP source) … But then in Japan … !!!

As if we did not qualify for certain jobs, as if the noble part of certain activities was dominated by men. Why would the maintenance be reserved for us and creating party would be denied us ?

Come on ladies … What do you expect ? Someone gives you permission …?

So I wanted to salute here the courage of this young Japanese woman, Yumi Nomura, and wish him a lot of fun every day in her job … Because playing with the plant, mineral and water to create metaphors of landscape is a craft absolutely fascinating, extraordinary, that for me, fills me with joy every day and allows me to achieve fullness, even flirting with eternity …!
